China has increased precautions in Bayannur, a city in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, after one confirmed case of bubonic plague. It is not clear they might have become infected. Another suspected case involves a 15-year-old, apparently getting it from a marmot hunted by a dog. It has been given a level 3 alert, which forbids hunting and eating animals that could carry the plague. The public have been asked to report suspected cases.
Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-0 at their first game back at Anfield after becoming Premier League champions. Sadio Mane and Curtis Jones both found the net for Liverpool in the latter stages of the second half to secure the win. Liverpool have failed to find their form since winning the title and the first half passed without either side putting together any dangerous chances. After Thursday’s 4-0 demolition at the hands of Manchester City (one of the heaviest defeats by a Premier League champion) Liverpool recovered in time to put relegation-threatened Aston Villa to the sword.
After a battle with the coronavirus since March, Broadway actor Nick Cordero died on Sunday at the Cedars-Sinai hospital from severe medical complications including mini-strokes, blood clots, sepsis infections, a tracheostomy and a temporary pacemaker implant. He had spent weeks in intensive care. His wife, Amanda Kloots, posted on Instagram “God has another angel in heaven now. Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone’s friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk. He was an incredible actor and musician. He loved his family and loved being a father and husband.”

Kanye West tweeted on the Fourth of July he’ll run for president using the hashtag #2020Vision. Both his wife, Kim Kardashian West, and entrepreneur Elon Musk have endorsed him. This is the second time he’s claimed he’s running for the White House. The last being the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards when he said he’d run in 2020. Then, however, he pushed the date back saying he’d run in 2024.

Known as Independence Day in the United States for commemorating the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Whilst the legal separation of the thirteen colonies from Great Britain in 1776 actually happened on July 2nd, the wording of the Declaration was finally approved two days later on July 4th. In the UK, pubs opened up for the first time since lockdown took place.
Alexander Hamilton was born on January 11th 1755 (or 1757 - it’s unclear what year) in Charlestown, Nevis (a small island in the Caribbean Sea and part of the West Indies). He was sent to New York in his teens to pursue his education at King’s College (now Columbia). He took an early role in the militia as the American Revolutionary War began. In 1777, he became a senior aide to General Washington running the new Continental Army. He then practiced law, founded the Bank of New York and then entered politics. He helped ratify the Constitution by writing the majority of The Federalist Papers and was active ending the legality of the international slave trade. He campaigned against Vice President Burr for governor of New York State in 1804 and, after taking offense, Burr challenged him to a duel. Burr shot and mortally wounded him and Hamilton died on July 12th 1804 of a gunshot wound aged 47 or 49 in Greenwich Village, New York.
